Rosehip is the fruit (technically the hypanthium — a fleshy pseudo-fruit) of the dog rose, Rosa canina, a thorny deciduous shrub native to Europe, North-West Africa, and West Asia and now widely naturalised across temperate Eurasia. The mature fruit ripens in late autumn to a bright red-orange and is traditionally harvested after the first frost, which softens the flesh.
Rosehip is consumed as a tea, a jam, a syrup, a freeze-dried powder, and as a concentrated extract in capsules.
